AICPA Amendment Added to House Bill to Set Up Privacy Commission.


The House is set to consider a bill to establish a "Commission for the Comprehensive Study of Privacy Protection" that includes an AICPA AICPA

 amendment requiring the Commission to report on third-party verification TPV (Third party verification) is a process of getting an independent third party company to confirm that the customer is actually requesting a change or ordering a new service or product.  as an enforcement mechanism. Third-party verification means that an objective third party examines a business' privacy policy to make sure that its privacy claims are true. The AICPA asked for the amendment to be added because CPA (Computer Press Association, Landing, NJ) An earlier membership organization founded in 1983 that promoted excellence in computer journalism. Its annual awards honored outstanding examples in print, broadcast and electronic media. The CPA disbanded in 2000.  [WebTrust WebTrust is a seal of assurance service developed jointly by the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA) and the Canadian Institute of Chartered Accountants (CICA). .sup.sm] is an example of a third-party verification program currently available in the private sector. The House Government Reform Committee approved the Institute's amendment to the bill (H.R. 4049) before clearing the bill for a vote by the full House. If H.R. 4049 becomes law, the Commission would also study a broad spectrum of privacy issues--online privacy, identity theft, privacy in the workplace and the protection of health, medical, financial and governmental records.
