She assumes the leadership of a group of 3,200 practicing architects, allied professionals, students and public members dedicated to the goals of public outreach, professional development and design excellence. Chin is the first public architect and the first Asian American to head the AIA New York Chapter, founded in 1867, which is the oldest and largest chapter of the American Institute of Architects The American Institute of Architects (AIA) is a professional organization for architects in the United States. Organized in 1857, the Institute conducts various activities and programs to support the profession and enhance its public image, including periodically awarding the AIA . Chin, the recipient of this year's Public Architect Award from the Chapter, currently serves as assistant commissioner for capital projects at the NYC NYC abbr. New York City NYC New York City Department of Cultural Affairs, where she ensures that the city's multi-million-dollar capital investment, as well as private contributions of more than $1 billion, advance the city's cultural life and aspirations. She supervises a capital program with more than 290 projects, including The Brooklyn Museum's new entrance and plaza, the Isamu Noguchi Garden Museum restoration and The Museum of Modern Art expansion. She also oversees the Percent for Art Program and Community Arts Development Program. |
