AIA Portland Announces Annual Design Award Winners; AIA Honors Mayor Katz for Outstanding Leadership of City Building for Portland.PORTLAND, Ore. -- In conjunction with the annual Architecture Week events, American Institute of Architects The American Institute of Architects (AIA) is a professional organization for architects in the United States. Organized in 1857, the Institute conducts various activities and programs to support the profession and enhance its public image, including periodically awarding the AIA Portland awarded top honors to Oregon architects for excellence in design. Architects were recognized for their work on high profile architecture, planning, urban planning and interior design projects across the country. AIA AIA - Application Integration Architecture Portland Board of Directors also awarded Portland Mayor Vera Katz an honorary AIA Portland membership for her support of Portland's design and architecture community, for her accomplishments in fostering urban livability and for her leadership in creating an outstanding legacy of city building. With the growing participation in LEED certification and environmentally friendly design, AIA Portland added a new award category for Sustainable Design, which recognizes projects that successfully integrate design excellence with energy and resource efficiency. Architects were also recognized in the categories of People's Choice, Craftsmanship, Unbuilt Projects and Built Projects.
