AIA Peconic to sponsor building code seminar.

AIA Peconic is sponsoring a daylong two part seminar titled, "Analysis of Code Requirements for Wind-Borne Debris Regions: Partially Enclosed Building Design", at the Bridgehampton Community House on Tuesday, November 15, starting at 2:30 p.m.

Local building officials, architects, engineers and contractors are invited to attend.

By designing a building as a "partially enclosed structure", it is possible for architects and engineers to do away with the requirement for specialized and expensive windows, or the structural panels that had been thought necessary to use in a "120 mph wind zone". Much of the East End is in such a zone, one of only two such areas in the Northeast.

Senior officials from The New York State Department of State, Division of Code Enforcement and Administration in Albany will conduct the seminar. Sam Ricotta, Asst. Director of Educational Services, and Brian Tollisen, PE, Senior Building Construction Engineer, along with local officials from the Codes Division, will conduct an in-depth review of the NYS Building Code as it pertains to "partially enclosed structures", in the afternoon.

The evening session will be a review by State officials of proposed changes to the NYS Building Code, followed by a question and answer session. This is an opportunity for local architects and builders to comment on the Code, without having to travel to Albany.

The cost of the full program is $95, which includes a buffet dinner. Check-in is at 2PM, the after-noon session runs from 2:30 to 5:30, and is eligible for three HSW Continuing Education credits. The evening session runs from 7 to 9 PM, and is eligible for two HSW Continuing Education credits. Those interested should register early, as space is limited to the first eighty registrants.

AIA Peconic is the newest Chapter of The American Institute of Architects, and consists of over 100 members in the five East End Towns.
