AHI Healthcare Systems Inc. names new chief financial officer.

DOWNEY, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--July 13, 1995--AHI Healthcare Systems Inc., a developer and operator of integrated managed health care delivery systems, Thursday announced the appointment of H.R. Brereton Barlow as chief financial officer.

The appointment, which concludes a six-month executive search, became effective July 10.

Barlow will hold responsibility for all financial management, financial reporting and treasury functions. Reporting to Barlow will be Loren Miner, vice president, finance and administration, who is responsible for all finance, accounting, human resources and administrative functions.

According to Leonardo Berezovsky, M.D., AHI chairman and chief executive officer, the appointment of a strong chief financial officer fits with the company's business and growth strategy. On June 23, AHI filed a registration statement with the Securities and Exchange Commission for the initial public offering of 4.2 million shares of common stock.

Barlow, 45, brings more than 20 years of financial experience with an emphasis on public companies and health care. Most recently, Barlow served as senior vice president of Health Systems International Inc. and senior vice president, finance and operations, and chief financial officer of its Health Net subsidiary in Woodland Hills.

He was responsible for financial accounting and reporting, treasury, financial planning, budgeting, insurance risk management, capitation and claims processing, membership enrollment and accounting, member services, contracts and policy departments, and internal audit. He achieved steadily increasing levels of managerial responsibility before assuming the senior vice president position in 1994, for which he directed a staff of approximately 600 associates.

Barlow also held numerous positions with Deloitte & Touche, including partner in the firm's Los Angeles and Cape Town, South Africa, offices. During his 18 years with Deloitte & Touche, he directed teams of accountants in the audits of various large and middle-market companies. He also advised health care and life insurers, manufacturers and distributors on mergers and acquisitions, restructurings, share valuations and capital formation.

Barlow holds a bachelor of commerce degree in economics and a master of business administration degree in finance from the University of Cape Town, Cape Town, South Africa, and he is a certified public accountant. A resident of Los Angeles, Barlow and his wife, Gillian, have three children.
