AGUA DULCE FAIR PROMISES LOTS OF FUN.Byline: Daily News AGUA Agua (ä`wä, ä`gwä), inactive volcano, 12,310 ft (3,752 m) high, S Guatemala. In 1541, climaxing several days of unceasing rain and earthquakes, a wall of water swept down from its slopes, completely destroying Ciudad Vieja. Over 1,000 inhabitants were drowned, including the governor, Doña Beatriz de la Cueva. DULCE - Agua Dulce's 34th annual community fair will feature a parade, equestrian events, chili cook-off, attractions for youngsters, art and crafts show, car show, dances and food. The Oct. 2 fair kicks off with a pancake breakfast at 7 a.m., followed at 9:30 a.m. by the annual parade along Agua Dulce Road. This year's theme is ``Old Western Movies,'' and grand marshal will be stuntman Terry Leonard. Also riding in the parade will be Agua Dulce's 2004 Family of the Year and Pioneer Family. Immediately following the parade, the Agua Dulce's Walk of Fame will induct Leonard and the late trick roper Montie Montana. The ceremony will take place in front of Agua Dulce Hardware on Agua Dulce Road, and will include a presentation of the plaques to be embedded in the sidewalk and belt buckles commemorating the honors. Throughout the day, fair visitors can enjoy a variety of attractions for all ages and browse the vendor booths and art exhibits. Visitors can also watch the annual chili cook-off or the California Desperados demonstrating their shooting skills. Prizes for crafts, products and services from local businesses and organizations will be raffled off throughout the day. Youngsters have been working on entries for the Agua Dulce Fair Coloring Contest. Contest entry forms are available on the fair's web site at www.aguadulcefair.com and in local businesses. Drop-off boxes for entries will be located around town and at the fair. A dinner catered by BBQbyDan will be followed by dancing to music by Dangerous, the band of former Three Dog Night drummer Michael McMeel, and entertainment by Shane Barmby. Tickets for the dance will be available for $10 at the fair. Entry to the fair is free. Food and some attractions are available at an additional cost.
