AGREEMENT COULD HALT SENATE BID TO DECERTIFY MEXICO.

The Clinton administration agreed late Wednesday to a Senate resolution calling for a detailed report on specific anti-drug efforts by Mexico and the United States Relations between the United States and Mexico are among the most important and complex that each nation maintains. They are shaped by a mixture of mutual interests, shared problems, and growing interdependence. .

The agreement is designed to head off a Senate vote on overruling o·ver·rule

 President Clinton's Feb. 28 certification that Mexico is a fully cooperating partner in the drug war. The resolution is expected to come to a vote today as the Senate wraps up business before its scheduled adjournment A putting off or postponing of proceedings; an ending or dismissal of further business by a court, legislature, or public official—either temporarily or permanently.  for a two-week spring recess.

The resolution - offered by Sens. Paul Coverdell, R-Ga.; Dianne Feinstein, D-Calif.; Kay Bailey Hutchison Kathyrn Ann Bailey Hutchison, usually known as Kay Bailey Hutchison (born July 22 1943), is the senior United States Senator from Texas. She is a member of the Republican Party. , R-Texas, and others - would require the administration to report by Sept. 1 on Mexico's progress toward meeting 10 specific goals and the United States' progress toward three goals.
