Ramsey was able to get behind the wheel of the SUV and drive away, Jennings said. Jennings didn't know how she got into the front seat; the back doors are locked on the inside and a metal barrier separates the back seat from the front seat. Jennings said he assumes she was able to crawl out a window or get the door open, because there seemed to be too little space for even a thin woman to get around the metal barrier. Manning a radio at the Palmdale sheriff's station, Detective Mark Newlands spent the two hours trying to calm the woman down and convince her to pull over.
