AGL Resources Names Melanie Platt to Take on an Additional Role as President of AGL Resources Foundation.

ATLANTA -- AGL Resources today announced Melanie Platt, an 11-year veteran of the company, has been named president of the AGL Resources Foundation.

Platt, who currently oversees human resources for the company, will retain those responsibilities, and her new position will be senior vice president and president of the AGL Resources Foundation.

She will provide strategic direction for corporate philanthropy, community affairs, and employee volunteer services.

"Melanie is just the person for the job," said John Somerhalder, AGL Resources' chief executive officer and president. "She has been a community leader for years now with her own involvement in a host of non-profits and charitable organizations. It makes her a perfect fit to lead this arm of the company."

Platt is vice chairman of the Board of Directors of Atlanta Habitat for Humanity, a director of the Metro Atlanta YMCA, a director and a member of the executive committee of Central Atlanta Progress, and a trustee and a member of the executive committee at the Fernbank Museum of Natural History.

The AGL Resources Foundation aligns corporate giving with the company's core values and business strategy. For example, one of its biggest giving programs is energy assistance grants to low income and elderly citizens to help them pay their energy bills.

Platt joined AGL Resources in 1995 as vice president and corporate secretary. She has served on the AGL Resources Foundation board of directors since the late 1990s.
