AGL Resources Donates 13 Acres in Metro Area to Atlanta Habitat for Humanity; Land Could Site 40 homes.

ATLANTA -- Atlanta-based AGL Resources (NYSE:ATG), parent of Atlanta Gas Light, today announced the company is donating 13 acres in Metro Atlanta to the Atlanta Habitat for Humanity to be used to site and build up to 40 homes.

"AGL Resources is pleased to donate this valuable land in Metro Atlanta to the Atlanta Habitat for Humanity," said John W. Somerhalder, II, President and CEO of AGL Resources at the company's annual meeting where he announced the donation. "We can't think of a better way to mark our 150 years of service in Georgia than by giving to the Atlanta Habitat to help ensure that those who need it will have affordable new homes in Metro Atlanta."

Suzanne Sitherwood, president of Atlanta Gas Light, said, "Atlanta Gas Light has a legacy of providing natural gas service and more to the communities we serve. We've worked with the Atlanta Habitat for many years serving on the board and helping build houses. Because of this community involvement, we found a creative way to meet the Atlanta Habitat's need for land to build more houses."

The Atlanta Habitat has indicated its most pressing need is to establish a property bank for future Habitat homes. The 13-acre parcel includes a ten-acre plot and a three-acre plot in Fairfield Heights (1.5 miles east of the intersection of 1-285 and 1-20 west). Depending on the final land-use surveys, as many as 40 families could enjoy new homes as result of the donation.

"The cost of land today threatens our ability to continue building affordable homes, but generous gifts of land like this one from AGL Resources ensure that we can continue our mission. Atlanta Habitat for Humanity is one of the most productive of the 1,700 Habitat for Humanity affiliates nationwide. The Atlanta affiliate is on target to reach their goal of building 1,000 homes by the end of 2008 when they'll celebrate their 25th anniversary.

AGL Resources has participated on the Board of Atlanta Habitat for Humanity since the late 1990's and completed a commitment made in 2001 to build five Atlanta Habitat houses in five years. The company's Volunteer or V-Force completed that goal in 2005 and began helping construct a 6th house late last month.
