AGGRESSIVE JETHAWKS TIED WITH HIGH DESERT.

Byline: Chris Cocoles Daily News Staff Writer

The gambling Rick Burleson
Richard Paul Burleson (born April 29, 1951 in Lynwood, California), nicknamed "Rooster", is a former shortstop in Major League Baseball. In a 13-year career, Burleson played for the Boston Red Sox (1974-80), California Angels (1981-84, 1986) and Baltimore Orioles (1987).

The JetHawks reward was extra innings Noun 1. extra innings - overtime play until one team is ahead at the end of an inning; e.g. baseball
extra time, overtime - playing time beyond regulation, to break a tie
in Wednesday's game with High Desert, which, at press time, was tied at three through the 12th.

Burleson never hesitated in sending Adonis Harrison home from second on an errant throw by High Desert second baseman Junior Spivey.

Harrison barely beat the tag to score the tying run in the eighth inning and save Burleson from pondering the what if questions.

Burleson's aggression on the basepaths nearly ruined the JetHawks chances two innings earlier. With one out in the sixth and High Desert leading 3-1, Harrison lined a base hit in front of and past center fielder Juan Garcia for an error.

Harrison never broke stride as Burleson emphatically waved him home. He was gunned down on a perfect relay throw from Garcia to Spivey to catcher Rod Barajas.

Harrison would have scored when the next hitter, Ramon Vazquez, doubled to left. A Luis Tinoco single plated Vazquez but the rally ended with the Mavericks still up 3-2.

Tinoco hit the JetHawks' first home run of the season in the first, but that was all they could muster against Mavericks starter John Patterson.
