AG Group Announces the Release of TokenPeek for Windows 3.1.

WALNUT CREEK Walnut Creek, residential city (1990 pop. 60,569), Contra Costa co., W Calif., in the San Francisco Bay area; inc. 1914. It is the trade and shipping center of an extensive agricultural area where walnuts are among the major product. , Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Sept. 9, 1998--AG Group, Inc. announced today the release of TokenPeek(TM) for Windows 3.1. Available for Windows 95/98 and NT 4.0, TokenPeek is a Token Ring network A LAN access method that uses the token passing technology in a physical ring. Each station in the network passes the token on to the station next to it. Token Ring and FDDI LANs use the token ring access method. See Token Ring, FDDI and token passing.  and protocol analyzer See network analyzer.  with an intuitive user interface designed to de-mystify the complex tasks involved in troubleshooting mixed-platform, multi-protocol networks.

Key features of TokenPeek include real-time and post-capture packet filtering See packet filter. , Plug-ins for expert packet analysis (including analysis of IP and security-related network issues), powerful decoding with support for all major protocol suites (including IP, AppleTalk, NetWare, SMB (1) (Small to Medium-sized Business) Also called "SME" (small to medium-sized enterprise), it refers to companies that are larger than the small office/home office (SOHO), but not huge. , OSI (1) (Open System Interconnection) An ISO standard for worldwide communications that defines a framework for implementing protocols in seven layers. Control is passed from one layer to the next, starting at the application layer in one station, proceeding to the  TARP, more), ProtoSpecs(TM) for fine delineation of protocol type, a simple "Make Filter" command, real-time utilization statistics, high-performance drivers for enhanced packet capture, Summary Statistics for monitoring key traffic elements at relevant intervals, name for MAC Address translation, a separate Error Statistics window (which displays the percentage of, and number of packets representing, errors on the network), a new Tool Menu for access to external utilities and more.

TokenPeek Makes Token Ring A local area network (LAN) access method developed by IBM. Conforming to the IEEE 802.5 standard, Token Ring uses a token ring access method and connects up to 255 nodes in a star topology at 4, 16 or 100 Mbps.  Debugging a Breeze -0-

-- Friendly graphical interface and extensive design makes powerful

TokenHelp(TM) Remote Capture Utility Included with TokenPeek

TokenHelp is a blind packet capture application specifically designed to help people who design, build, manage and support networks get a better idea of what is happening on a remote LAN (Local Area Network) A communications network that serves users within a confined geographical area. The "clients" are the user's workstations typically running Windows, although Mac and Linux clients are also used.  or WAN segment without having to visit that location. Licensed users of TokenPeek may distribute the TokenHelp application freely for remote packet capture sessions. TokenHelp works by capturing all network traffic, or a specified portion of that traffic, in the form of packets. Packets captured are not displayed in TokenHelp, but can be saved in a file, which can then be forwarded to support personnel for analysis by TokenPeek, which can display the saved packets.

Beyond the ability to capture packets, TokenHelp borrows two other features from TokenPeek: filters and triggers. Filters allow a user to limit the packets captured to those that meet specific criteria. Triggers allow TokenHelp to stay poised for capture until a specific type of packet is present, whereupon capture begins. Filters and triggers are referred to as settings. If specifying certain packets for capture is important in troubleshooting a network problem, predefined filters can be set by network support personnel using the "Save Settings" command. Users then simply use the "Load Settings" command before starting capture.

Extending TokenPeek's Core Functionality

AG Group, Inc. has also announced the imminent availability of two new programs that extend the functionality of TokenPeek for Windows. NetSense(TM) ProAnalyst 3.0, an award-winning 32-bit Windows 95/98 and Windows NT (Windows New Technology) A 32-bit operating system from Microsoft for Intel x86 CPUs. NT is the core technology in Windows 2000 and Windows XP (see Windows). Available in separate client and server versions, it includes built-in networking and preemptive multitasking.  application that provides a wealth of information from packets contained in TokenPeek trace files, and ProConvert(TM), an application that converts packet capture files to and from a wide variety of analyzers. NetSense and ProConvert, developed by Net3 Group, Inc. of St. Paul St. Paul

NetSense(TM) ProAnalyst

NetSense is a comprehensive Windows(R) 95/98/NT application that performs expert analysis of peer-to-peer conversations in packets captured from TokenPeek. The most critical information from each packet is extracted and displayed in several different formats, empowering the network analyst to view trace files in a highly graphical and interactive fashion.

NetSense also has the industry's first and only PacketVisualizer(TM), a tool that provides you with unique insight into protocol operation by displaying packets in a spatial fashion, allowing you to easily see packet sizes and the delay between them. For even more in-depth analysis, a "What If" feature uses a packet trace from EtherPeek or TokenPeek as a baseline and allows you to predict application load and response times under varying conditions such as a different bandwidth (LAN or WAN), a more optimal send-to-receive packet ratio, different packet sizes, less latency, etc.

ProConvert(TM) Packet File Conversion

With ProConvert, your traces can now be fully converted to and from TokenPeek format from over a dozen other protocol analyzers, allowing you to view packets on a totally different analyzer from which they were captured. ProConvert converts packet capture files to and from a wide variety of analyzers, including LANalyzer, Sniffer, Microsoft NetMON, Intel's NetSight and NetDesk, Triticom's LANdecoder, HP's Internet Advisor Broadband & Internet Advisor (originally Internet Advisor) is a magazine which was founded in 1993. The magazine was published by Future Publishing to provide technical articles, news, and reviews relating to Internet technology. , and more.
