AG's Office Unveils $34 Million National Settlement with Shoe Manufacturer.Business/News Editors OLYMPIA, Wash.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--March 6, 2000 Attorney General Christine Gregoire Christine O'Grady "Chris" Gregoire (born March 24, 1947) is the Democratic governor of the U.S. state of Washington. Gregoire's election to the office in 2004 was notable for her historically slim margin of victory over Republican Dino Rossi, who had appeared to defeat Gregoire on and the attorneys general of 49 other states, Washington, D.C., and five territories have reached a $34 million settlement with New York New York, state, United States New York, Middle Atlantic state of the United States. It is bordered by Vermont, Massachusetts, Connecticut, and the Atlantic Ocean (E), New Jersey and Pennsylvania (S), Lakes Erie and Ontario and the Canadian province of shoe manufacturer Nine West Inc. over allegations of price-fixing. The settlement, filed today in U.S. District Court in New York, immediately followed the filing of a lawsuit against Nine West in the same court. The settlement resolves the lawsuit, but allows the court to retain jurisdiction over the terms of the agreement. The court will have to approve the agreement. In order to enforce the policies, Nine West allegedly granted discounts to cooperating retailers and withheld discounts or threatened to cancel or refuse to take orders from uncooperative companies.
