AFTER INJURY, BELL NOW PLAYS TO MOSTLY ESCAPE THE PAIN.

Byline: - Kirby Lee

The odyssey for The Master's College History
The Master's College was founded as Los Angeles Baptist Theological Seminary on May 25, 1927 to meet the need for a fundamental Baptist school on the West Coast.
forward Chad Bell began two years ago as a freshman at Cerritos College Cerritos College is a public comprehensive community college founded in 1955 located in Norwalk, California. It was named after Rancho Los Cerritos, a ranch that served prominently in the region in the 19th century. .

Bell was going for a rebound in practice when he hyperextended his right knee as he was boxed out by a teammate. The junior has experienced pain ever since despite two arthroscopic knee surgeries Arthroscopic knee surgery

``On game days, it's fine and really doesn't hurt because of adrenalin,'' Bell said. ``In practice, it hurts and it's really hard to get going.''

Bell is hoping his knee will hold up for at least two more weeks.

The 6-foot-7 Bell has played in all 32 games in his first season at The Master's, scoring a team-high 20 points in victories over Cal State San Bernardino, Southeast Oklahoma and UC Santa Cruz.

Bell has played an average of nearly 28 minutes per game, averaging 10.4 points and leads the Mustangs in rebounding at 5.4.

``He's been solid for us,'' The Master's coach Bill Oates said. ``He has played real good games when we needed it.''

It hasn't come without sacrifice.

Bell experiences swelling walking to classes. He plays with a large brace on his knee and must take anti-inflammatory drugs Anti-inflammatory drugs

``It's like a sharp pain, like a knife in it, that's always there,'' Bell said.

Bell had arthroscopic surgery Arthroscopic Surgery Definition

Arthroscopic surgery is a procedure to visualize, diagnose, and treat joint problems. The name is derived from the Greek words arthron, which means joint, and skopein, which means to look at.
to repair a torn meniscus meniscus /me·nis·cus/ (me-nis´kus) pl. menis´ci   [L.] something of crescent shape, as the concave or convex surface of a column of liquid in a pipet or buret, or a crescent-shaped cartilage in the knee joint.  at the end of his freshman year at Cerritos. He had a second operation after his sophomore season. The exploratory surgery revealed softening of cartilage but no tears.

The condition flared up this season when he was kicked in the knee. Bell had no history of knee problems at St. John Bosco High in Bellflower, where he was a member of the Braves' Southern Section Division II-A championship team.

``I can relate to him, big time,'' said Mustang senior guard Jeremiah Cathey, who sat out last season after tearing all the ligaments in his wrist (see related story). ``It's one thing to be handicapped it's another thing not knowing what the cause is.''
