AFTECH Launches On-Line Service Bureau.

In a move to broaden availability of the AFTECH Advantage core processing system for credit unions, AFTECH President Joseph A. Antellocy announced the unveiling of Advantage ASP. AFTECH is a unit of Fiserv, Inc. (Nasdaq: FISV).

"Making the whole range of the Advantage application available in the service bureau format gives our clients a new opportunity to benefit from the AFTECH Advantage without having to support their own IT departments. This can be a very economical option, especially for clients seeking a consultative IT partner," Antellocy said. "At the same time, it gives AFTECH the ability to serve credit unions that prefer the service bureau/ASP approach to data processing," he added.

"We have been giving the online option a great deal of thought and research since I came to AFTECH almost two years ago," Antellocy continued. "When we found a client--American Spirit Federal Credit Union in Newark, Delaware--that wanted to partner with us to explore this option, we decided it was time to take action."

Antellocy and American Spirit CEO Maurice Dawkins signed the ASP partnership agreement in early December. As part of the agreement, AFTECH will take over the credit union's IT operations and make available all AFTECH products and services, including modules the credit union does not now use.

"No one in this industry was willing to do for us what AFTECH is doing for us," said American Spirit COO Dean Knotts.

Dawkins added that with a membership of 9,000 and a staff of 25, the credit union needed to focus its expertise to grow. "We have a community charter that could let us add as many as 60,000 members," he said. "We need to be out in the community participating in and sponsoring events. We want to be a presence on Main Street in Newark. We want to know we have a strong IT platform, but we don't want to manage it on a day-to-day basis."
