AFSCME DETROIT WORKERS TO VOTE ON CONCESSION PACKAGE
DETROIT, Sept. 29 /PRNewswire/ -- More than 6,000 City of Detroit

employees represented by the American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees (AFSCME) will vote on a new proposed contract, including concessions sought by the Young Administration, on Wednesday, Sept. 30.
"The Union has reached tentative agreement with the City of Detroit on a new master agreement, addressing the concessions sought by the city administration, but also providing significantly enhanced job security for workers represented by AFSCME. After very careful consideration of all factors, the bargaining team recommends this agreement," stated Lawrence A. Roehrig, secretary-treasurer of Michigan AFSCME Council 25. The 17 local unions representing city workers are affiliated with Council 25 and bargain jointly for the master contract covering all AFSCME Detroit workers.
All local unions will conduct the ratification vote on Wednesday, Sept. 30, from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m., at the Northwest Activities Center, 18100 Meyers at Curtis, 313-935-3710.
Details of the tentative agreement will be provided to the workers in writing, but will not be available for public release until after ratification.
Before voting, workers must show proof of employment in the AFSCME bargaining unit, or proof of layoff status from an AFSCME bargaining unit. Acceptable forms of proof include an AFSCME membership card, the worker's most recent paycheck stub, a city identification badge, and related materials.
