AFS restructures Cast Metals Institute to expand reach. (Metalcasting Associations).


To better meet the needs of its customer base, AFS' Cast Metals Institute (CMI (Computer-Managed Instruction) Using computers to organize and manage an instructional program for students. It helps create test materials, tracks the results and monitors student progress. ) is restructuring its operations. On June 30, 2003, CMI will close its foundry training facility and laboratories in Des Plaines, Illinois “Des Plaines” redirects here. For the river, see Des Plaines River.
Des Plaines (pronounced IPA [dɛsˈpleɪnz]) is a city in Cook County, Illinois, United States.
, and will shift all laboratory courses and training to off-site facilities. CMI still will hold lecture courses in Des Plaines.

These new training facilities for hands-on laboratory courses will consist of Foundry Educational Foundation and AFS A distributed file system for large, widely dispersed Unix and Windows networks from Transarc Corporation, now part of IBM. It is noted for its ease of administration and expandability and stems from Carnegie-Mellon's Andrew File System.
