AFS coordinates 'day of metalcasting' for transportation industry at SAE 2002 world congress. (Metalcasting Association). The Society of Automotive Engineers SAE International (SAE) is a professional organization for mobility engineering professionals in aerospace, automotive and the commercial vehicle industries. The Society is a standards development organization for the engineering of powered vehicles of all kinds, including (SAE) World Congress, the largest original equipment service, parts and components exhibition in the world, will offer a full day of Congress sessions on metalcasting on March 6 at the Cobo Center, Detroit. The event's Congress and Expo regularly draws 50,000 transportation industry decisionmakers. Organized by Steve Robison of the AFS A distributed file system for large, widely dispersed Unix and Windows networks from Transarc Corporation, now part of IBM. It is noted for its ease of administration and expandability and stems from Carnegie-Mellon's Andrew File System. AFS - Andrew File System Technical Dept. in conjunction with the AFS Marketing Div., the session, entitled "Design Considerations for Automotive Castings" will begin at 9 a.m. in Room D3-24/25. The lineup includes the following presentations: * "Best of Class Casting Components," Alfred T. Spada, MODERN CASTING/ Engineered Casting Solutions; * "Optimization of Metalcasting Design," Mileta M. Tomovic, Purdue Univ.; * "Casting Design for Structural Components," Michael Gwyn, Advanced Technology Institute; * "Automotive Casting Solutions," John L. Jorstad, JLJ JLJ Junior League of Jackson (Jackson, MS) Technologies, Inc.; * "Improving the Properties of Austempered Ductile Iron Ductile iron, also called ductile cast iron or nodular cast iron, is a type of cast iron invented in 1943 by Keith Millis[1]. While most varieties of cast iron are brittle, ductile iron is much more ductile, as the name implies. ," Richard M. Gundlach, Climax Research Services, and Jim Mullins, Ductile Iron Society (DIS); * "Induction Hardened Ductile Iron Camshafts," Alan P. Druschitz, David Orrechio, Richard Martin The name Richard Martin can refer to different people:
The "day of metalcasting" concludes with a panel on "Changing Trends in Automotive Casting Technologies and Applications" at 2 p.m. Moderated by Michael Lessiter, AFS Marketing Div. and MODERN CASTING/Engineered Casting Solutions, the panel will provide engineers with insight into technologies, trends and tools that are continuing to impact cast metal's utilization in the transportation sector. Participants include: * Alan Steffe, manufacturing engineering Manufacturing engineering Engineering activities involved in the creation and operation of the technical and economic processes that convert raw materials, energy, and purchased items into components for sale to other manufacturers or into end products for director of castings, General Motors--Powertrain Div.; * David Weiss There are several individuals of note named David Weiss, including:
* Clayton Sloss, analysis engineering leader, Wescast Industries, Inc.; * Gary F. Ruff, executive vice president, Internet Corp. A special casting exhibit shared by MS and DIS also will be featured on the exhibition show floor. Located at booth 1641, the exhibit will feature a variety of information about cast metals and processes and officially unveil the award-winning castings from the 2002 AFS Casting Contest. |
