AFS Research Program Honored by U.S. Dept. of Defense.


Representatives of the American Metalcasting Consortium (AMC (Advanced Mezzanine Card) See AdvancedTCA. ) recently traveled to Washington, D.C. to receive an award from the Dept. of Defense (DOD (1) (Dial On Demand) A feature that allows a device to automatically dial a telephone number. For example, an ISDN router with dial on demand will automatically dial up the ISP when it senses IP traffic destined for the Internet. ). AMC has become one of the nation's leading organizations focused on pre-competitive metalcasting research and development. AFS A distributed file system for large, widely dispersed Unix and Windows networks from Transarc Corporation, now part of IBM. It is noted for its ease of administration and expandability and stems from Carnegie-Mellon's Andrew File System.

AFS - Andrew File System
 is a founding member of AMC along with five other metalcasting associations. Since 1995, AMC has actively partnered with DOD in a highly successful program known as the Metalcasting Lead Time and Cost Reduction Program. On September 1st, AMC was honored to receive Vice President Gore's Hammer Award, which was presented to the Integrated Casting Design Team. The Team is comprised of personnel from AMC and DOD.
