AFS Chapter Officers Conference.


In June, 55 delegates from 35 chapters gathered at AFS A distributed file system for large, widely dispersed Unix and Windows networks from Transarc Corporation, now part of IBM. It is noted for its ease of administration and expandability and stems from Carnegie-Mellon's Andrew File System.

, for the annual Chapter Officers Conference. The conference featured opening remarks from AFS President H. Arthur Edge, Jr., American Cast Iron Pipe Co. (retired), and AFS Executive Vice President Dwight Barnhard. Pictured, Johnny Thornburgh, Tonkawa Foundry, Inc., discusses a, typical chapter meeting for the Plains States Chapter.

During the conference, representatives from the Wisconsin chapter spoke on their membership program. Pictured, Cory Ashburn, The Hill and Griffith Co., describes the typical agenda during a monthly Wisconsin Chapter membership, committee meeting.

On the second day, delegates listened to the presentation "Chapter Operations--The Dos, Don'ts and Why Nots!" from guest speaker Leo Leo, in astronomy

 Die Casting die casting

Forming metal objects by injecting molten metal under pressure into dies or molds. An early and important use of the technique was in the Linotype machine (1884), but the mass-production automobile assembly line gave die casting its real impetus.
