 AFRIN INVITES AMERICA TO 'BREATHE FREE' -- EXPECTS RECORD RESPONSE
 TO INTERACTIVE MARKETING CAMPAIGN
 LIBERTY CORNER, N.J., July 17 /PRNewswire/ -- In just 30 days, the makers of AFRIN -- America's number one 12-hour nasal spray -- hope to make more than 500 million new friends. If successful, "The Afrin Challenge" will represent one of the largest television advertising response campaigns in history.
 Beginning October 11 and running through November 11, consumers will see television commercials prompting them to call 1-800-55-AFRIN. Those who call will receive a free 6-ml sample of AFRIN and a $1 coupon for future purchases.
 "Cold tablet users should be happy to try AFRIN because it goes directly to the congested area and relieves congestion in less than five minutes," says Ruth Carlson, senior director OTC Product Management at Schering-Plough HealthCare Products. "That's four times faster than the leading cold tablet -- which might take up to 60 minutes to relieve congestion as thoroughly."
 After testing "The Afrin Challenge" concept in Rochester, N.Y. and Nashville, Tenn. during November of 1991, nearly half of the viewers who called switched to AFRIN. Due to this successful conversion rate, Schering-Plough HealthCare Products then decided to go national with the campaign.
