It aired in February 2006, and included research into the ancestral lineages of nine prominent African Americans: Gates, Whoopi Goldberg, 2, a four-part series exploring roots, race and identity through the ancestry of remarkable individuals. Hosted by Harvard professor Henry Louis Gates, Jr., AFRICAN AMERICAN LIVES 2 premieres Wednesdays, February 6 and 13 at 9 p.m. (ET) on PBS PBS in full Public Broadcasting Service Private, nonprofit U.S. corporation of public television stations. PBS provides its member stations, which are supported by public funds and private contributions rather than by commercials, with educational, cultural, (check local listings). Henderson, a college administrator, was selected after a thorough evaluation of applicants who were asked to describe the extent of their knowledge of their family's history and why they would be the ideal candidate to participate in AFRICAN AMERICAN LIVES 2. She joins the series' well known participants - poet Maya Angelou "I remember when Oprah's Roots was on, a couple of older relatives said, 'They keep doing famous people, they ought to do some regular people,'" said Henderson. "This is the greatest gift I can give to my family, and the stories they uncovered about my ancestors absolutely surprised me."
