AFO Introduces Compact Isolator.

FREMONT, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Feb. 18, 1998--AFO announced today the introduction of its Model CPII CPII Characteristics & Performance Intelligence Information
CPII Communications & Power Industries International
compact polarization-insensitive isolator. The compact isolator, which is 25 percent smaller than the company's previous isolator, measures 35 mm in overall length and 5.5 mm in diameter.

The CPII compact isolator is an extremely reliable device featuring high isolation and low insertion loss The amount of loss attributed to a particular device being used in (inserted into) the system. For example, a circuit added to filter out unwanted frequencies may reduce the output current by some amount. See injection loss.  over a broad temperature and wavelength range. It is designed for applications demanding critical performance, including high bit rate optical communications Optical communications

The transmission of speech, data, video, and other information by means of the visible and the infrared portion of the electromagnetic spectrum.
; optical fiber amplifiers; CATV (Community Antenna TV) The original name for cable TV. It used a single antenna at the highest location in the community in order to deliver a quality signal to homes in areas with hilly terrain or other interference. ; high-speed, analog optical systems; and microwave, fiber optic and radar systems.

The polarization insensitive device offers extremely low polarization dependent loss and polarization mode dispersion Polarization mode dispersion (PMD) is a form of modal dispersion where two different polarizations of light in a waveguide, which normally travel at the same speed, travel at different speeds due to random imperfections and asymmetries, causing random spreading of optical pulses. . The CPII compact isolator is designed to assure high performance and reliability.

AFO's compact isolator is a passive, non-reciprocal, high performance component which is used to suppress optical feedback in laser-based fiber optic systems and prevent laser output degradation caused by back reflection of in-line components. It is offered in 1310 and 1550 nm wavelengths.

AFO AFO Ankle-foot orthosis  designs, develops and manufactures fiber optic couplers and FCF-DWDM components. The company sells these components into a variety of applications including high speed telecommunications, CATV, local area networks and optical fiber amplifiers.

Manufacturing, management, marketing and sales are handled at the company's headquarters, located at 46758 Lakeview Blvd., Fremont, CA 94538. The company can be contacted by phone at 510/440-9608 or toll free 888/335-0338; and by fax at 510/440-9668.
