AFO Adds Couplers To Fiber Optic Product Line.

FREMONT, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Nov. 10, 1997--AFO Monday introduced its 1x2 and 2x2 couplers for combining and separating light at discrete coupling ratios.

Applications for the devices, which are fabricated with tape-fusing technology, include telecommunications, fiber-to-the-home, optical fiber sensors, CATV, LAN and test instruments.

James Campbell, AFO's vice president of sales and marketing said, "In addition to our fused, cascaded fiber (FCF) DWDM components, we're now expanding our product line to offer complementary components to our core technology."

The new bidirectional couplers operate at either 1310 or 1550 nm with very low excess loss. Operating wavelengths may be up to 20 nm apart.

The devices are available with seven specific coupling ratios ranging from 50:50 to 1:99. They provide low insertion loss and high directivity, and are environmentally stable and reliable. AFO also manufactures WBC wideband couplers for applications that require combination or separation of wavelengths divided by more than 80 nm.

AFO designs, develops and manufactures fiber optic couplers, isolators and FCF-DWDM components. Manufacturing, management, marketing and sales are handled at the company's headquarters, located at 46758 Lakeview Blvd., Fremont, Calif. 94538. The company can be contacted by phone at 510/440-9608 or toll free 888/335-0338; and by fax at 510/440-9668.
