Again in 2003, AFLAC, a world leader in guaranteed renewable insurance will pay tribute to the unsung heroes of American sport--the assistant coach. Last year, more than 500 outstanding men and women were honored with the AFLAC National Assistant Coach of the Year Award. Next spring, AFLAC, in conjunction with Scholastic Coach & Athletic Director, will announce the names of 500 more national award winners. Once again, each will be a man or woman in any sport who gave 100% all the time with little recognition. Among the criteria for the AFLAC National Assistant Coach of the Year Award are longevity, knowledge, long-term success, special contributions to the school and/or community, overcoming obstacles, etc. In early December, high school and college athletic directors, school district public relations directors, and college sports information directors will receive nomination forms and other information by direct mail. Each will be invited to nominate one or more assistant coaches. Entries must be received no later than March 1, 2003. If your AD doesn't receive his or her packet by January 6, 2003, entry forms can be obtained by faxing a request to 212-343-6376, e-mailing Mike Wallace at mwallace@scholastic.com or logging on to www.aflac.com or www.coachadguide.com.
