The Employee Free Choice Act (S. 842 and H.R. 1696) was reintroduced by a bipartisan coalition of members of both the U.S. Senate and the House of Representatives. The Act would strengthen workers' rights to choose a union by requiring employers to recognize a union after a majority of workers sign cards authorizing union representation. It would also provide for mediation and arbitration of first contract disputes and authorize stronger penalties for violation of the law when workers seek to form a union.

There are 38 co-sponsors of this bill in the Senate including Senator Arlen Specter. There are 191 co-sponsors in the House of Representatives, including the following Representatives from Pennsylvania: Congressman Doyle, Brady, Fattah, Holden, Kanjorski, Murtha, and Schwartz.

During the forum, Comcast workers engaged in union organizing campaigns will discuss their experiences in trying to form and join a union, as well as obtain a first contract. Other speakers include Pennsylvania AFL-CIO Secretary-Treasurer Richard Bloomingdale, Father Jack O'Malley, and representatives of Jobs with Justice Jobs With Justice is a nationally linked network of about 40 local coalitions throughout the United States that bring together labor unions, community organizations, religious groups, and student groups to fight for workers' rights.  and America Rights @ Work.
