AFE networking event a success.

The Association of Facilities Engineering (AFE) hosted a networking event for students at SUNY Maritime College in Throngs Neck, New York on October 20, 2009.

Students with an interest in engineering or those looking to enter the field post-graduation were given the opportunity to connect with industry professionals who are members of AFE.

Bob Bender. chapter president. spoke about the benefits of joining the student chapter of AFE and the opportunities it presents to young professionals. He stressed the importance of attending events such as the AFE golf outing, holiday party, and cigar night in order to network with members who are active within the industry. Daiana Miera, former president of the Student Association of AFE and graduate of SUNY Maritime, further emphasized the benefits of the association. She explained that networking through AFE allowed her to secure a position at Black Rock after graduation.

Mr. Bender also addressed AFE's continuing education program entitled, "Get Certified." This certification is another way for engineering professionals to market themselves in the industry.
