AFC TWO-MINUTE DRILL.

Byline: Billy Witz Staff Writer

Coaches on the hot seat

Dave Wannstedt Dave Wannstedt (born May 21, 1952 in Baldwin, Pennsylvania), is the current head coach of the University of Pittsburgh Panthers football team. Previously, Wannstedt was the head coach of the Miami Dolphins of the NFL from 2000 to 2004, and he coached the Chicago Bears from 1993 to , Dolphins. He has led Miami to a 41-23 record but only one playoff victory in four years. Ironically, the Ricky Williams Errick Lynne Williams, Jr. (born May 21, 1977 in San Diego, California) is an American and Canadian football running back whose NFL rights are held by the Miami Dolphins, but is currently suspended by the league for using marijuana.  mess might cast the Dolphins as overachievers - and buy Wannstedt more time.

Marty Schottenheimer Martin Edward Schottenheimer (born September 23, 1943 in Canonsburg, Pennsylvania) is an American football coach. He is currently serving as an NFL analyst on ESPN. Over his career, he has served as head coach of the Cleveland Browns, Kansas City Chiefs, Washington Redskins, and , Chargers. The NFL's winningest active coach has lost 19 of his last 25 games with San Diego San Diego (săn dēā`gō), city (1990 pop. 1,110,549), seat of San Diego co., S Calif., on San Diego Bay; inc. 1850. San Diego includes the unincorporated communities of La Jolla and Spring Valley. Coronado is across the bay. . If this keeps up, he might look over his shoulder - newly hired defensive coordinator A defensive coordinator typically refers to a coach on a football team in the National Football League or college football who is in charge of the defense. This position aids the head coach a great deal in many ways by delegating play calling to other coaches and allowing the head  Wade Phillips, the ex-Buffalo and Denver coach, was a favorite of general manager A.J. Pete Carroll, USC An abbreviation for U.S. Code. . The only difference between the USC coach and Saban is that Carroll has already had two shots. Does this make him tarnished or better for the experience?

Charlie Weis, Patriots. He's built a masterful system around Tom Brady. Now everyone will get to see what he can do with a running game.

Romeo Crenel, Patriots. Probably hurt by the perception that Belichick runs the defense and - like Weis - that he can't interview while the Patriots are winning Super Bowls.

Jim Fassel, Ravens. If Baltimore's offensive consultant gets Kyle Boller going in the right direction, he'll get the credit. His time with the Giants might look like the glory days in December This article or section needs sources or references that appear in reliable, third-party publications. Soon-to-be Pro Bowlers you haven't heard of

Guard Eric Steinbach, Bengals. Athletic and quick, Cincinnati was surprised he slipped to them in the second round a year ago. Then he showed why he shouldn't have.

Fullback Alan Ricard, Ravens. You'll rarely see him touch the ball, but when Jamal Lewis is busting big runs it's usually with a big block from him.

Running back Domanick Davis, Texans. If he stays healthy and improves on his 1,000-yard season, more people will wonder why he lasted until the fourth round last year.

Super Bowl pick

The Patriots. This could easily be the Broncos, Chiefs or Colts, but home-field advantage will mean everything and they have by far the easiest schedule: eight games against the Cardinals, 49ers, Bills, Jets and Dolphins.

Don't miss these games

Indianapolis at New England, Sept. 8.

Think the Thursday night season opener doesn't matter? If the Patriots didn't beat the Colts on the final play last year, the AFC (1) (Application Foundation Classes) A class library from Microsoft that provides an application framework and graphics, graphical user interface (GUI) and multimedia routines for Java programmers.  title game would have been in the RCA Dome instead of the snow.

Best offseason

Patriots. Filled two most glaring (only?) needs: Corey Dillon gives them a running game, and rookie Vince Wilfork is capable of filling run stopper Ted Washington's considerable pants.

Broncos. The Portis-Bailey trade gives them a corner who can take away half the field, and they won't miss Portis too much with Quentin Griffin, Mike Anderson and Tatum Bell. They also drafted a future star in linebacker D.J. Williams.

Steelers. Free agent Duce Staley gives Pittsburgh a tough, versatile back who should take pressure off Tommy Maddox. Dick LeBeau, who coordinated the Steelers defense the last time they went to the Super Bowl, returns in that role. And they got a quarterback of the future, Ben Roethlisberger, to boot.

Worst offseason

Dolphins. Ricky Williams goes walkabout walkabout

a dummy syndrome in horses; usually pyrrolizidine alkaloses caused by crotalaria poisoning. Affected horses walk compulsively, head press, appear blind and walk into objects. They do not respond to usual external stimuli or commands.
and the marquee free-agent signing, David Boston, blows out his knee. If A.J. Feeley, the quarterback they traded for, doesn't beat out Jay Fiedler, that should cap it.

Bills. To get J.P. Losman, a high-risk, high-reward prospect, Buffalo dealt three picks to Dallas, including next year's No. 1, which from the looks of it will be very high. Best acquisition, corner Troy Vincent, merely offsets loss of Antoine Winfield.

Colts. The loss of underrated linebacker Marcus Washington to the Redskins Redskins can refer to:
  • Redskin (slang), a controversial term referring to Native Americans
  • The Washington Redskins, a United States football team.
  • Redskin (subculture), a socialist or communist skinhead
  • The Redskins, a 1980s English left-wing soul/punk band
will be felt. They chose to rebuild defense through the draft, a risky proposition for a team built to win now.

Fantasy football sleepers

Lee Suggs, Browns. Should beat out William Green and even with the West Coast offense, Butch Davis wants to run the ball first.

Chris Brown, Titans. With Eddie George out of the picture, Brown will get the ball early and often. He has the speed to run long and the power to get in the end zone.

Byron Leftwich, Jaguars. Many rookie quarterbacks take a step back as sophomores, but he's durable, will score at the goal line and top pick Reggie Williams should help.
