AFC Emley prove just spot on!

Afc emley were spot on after booking a semi-final place in the West Yorkshire League Cup.

After drawing 2-2 at Hartshead at the end of extra time, Emley held their nerve to go through 3-2 in the penalty shoot-out lottery and set up a semi-final tie against Howden Clough or Beeston St Anthonys.

Emley started strongly and dominated an opposition who, only a month ago had beaten them 3-2 in the League.

The pressure paid off on eight minutes when John Paul Flynn collected a through ball from Craig Hitchen and tucked it neatly under the keeper.

And six minutes later Emley increased their lead when Max Joice was put through by Flynn and he too beat the advancing keeper.

Then Emley inexplicably took their foot off the pedal and let Hartshead back into the game.

In the second half the home side began to dominate and pegged Emley back in their own half.

Their pressure paid off when two goals in six minutes brought the sides level.

Emley barely had a shot in the second half and were glad to hear the full-time whistle to gather themselves for extra-time.

The Welfare Ground side's extra fitness showed and as the match went to penalties Joe Washington, Clarke and Murphy successfully converted from the spot to clinch victory.
