AF&PA honors six paper-recycling programs.
The American Forestry and Paper Association, Washington, D.C., USA announced six winners of the 2002 Best Paper Recycling Awards Contest. The awards recognize the efforts of those who made it possible for the United States to recycle 48% of all paper in 2001. Winners include: The Tennessee Department of Environment & Conservation, Nashville, Tennessee; Navy Whicbey Recycle, Oak Harbor, Washington; Virco Manufacturing Corporation, Conway Division, Torrance, California; Herndon Herndon, town (1990 pop. 16,139), Fairfax co., N Va., inc. 1874, rechartered 1938. A suburb of Washington, D.C., Herndon has a mix of light and high-tech industries. Dulles International Airport (including extensive facilities of the National Air and Space Museum) and the National Weather Service's Baltimore/Washington forecast office are to the west.
