After receiving a BS degree from the University of Alabama The University of Alabama (also known as Alabama, UA or colloquially as 'Bama) is a public coeducational university located in Tuscaloosa, Alabama, USA. Founded in 1831, UA is the flagship campus of the University of Alabama System.  and a Ph.D. degree from Texas A&M University, James H. Culp taught Chemical Oceanography for two years at Texas A&M University. Then, Culp joined The Dow Chemical Company in Research, developing analytical instrumentation and an Activated Sludge process for degrading organic waste water. He spent twelve years in manufacturing plants as an engineer, superintendent, and major manager responsible for four plants, and spent eight years in Business Development and Supply Chain as Dow's West Coast Business Development Manager and as Dow's North American Engineering Plastics Supply Chain Director before taking early retirement from Dow. Dr. Culp started up and led Dow's Recycle Plastics Manufacturing and Development Department for five years. Dr. Culp is a member of American Production and Inventory Control Society, American Chemical Society The American Chemical Society (ACS) is a learned society (professional association) based in the United States that supports scientific inquiry in the field of chemistry. Founded in 1876 at New York University, the ACS currently has over 160,000 members at all degree-levels and in , Stephen Covey's Seven Habits Facilitators, and American Recycle Plastics Association. Culp is married to Dixie B. Culp and they have two grown children.
