AEROVOX ACQUIRES ASSETS OF BRITISH CAPACITOR MANUFACTURER BH COMPONENTS

NORTH DARTMOUTH, Mass., March 15 /PRNewswire/ -- Aerovox Incorporated (NASDAQ: ARVX) has announced the acquisition of certain assets of British aluminum electrolytic capacitor manufacturer BH Components LTD., and the formation of a new company which will be known as BHC Aerovox Ltd.
BH Components, whose headquarters are located in Weymouth, England, manufacturers capacitors for motor start applications as well as DC large can computer grade units for electronic power supplies and uninterrupted power supplies. The company had sales of approximately $12 million in 1992, including exports of about 60 percent of its products to EEC countries.
According to Aerovox President Clifford H. Tuttle, "The acquisition gives Aerovox the European manufacturing base we have been seeking. We have significant opportunities for both microwave oven capacitors and discharge capacitors in Europe. Without an EEC base, sales in Europe are restricted by shipping costs, duties and delivery delays."
On Monday, Aerovox announced the purchase of Kentucky based Aero M from Cooper Industries. Like BH Components, Aero M manufactures aluminum electrolytic capacitors.
Tuttle noted that BH Components is very strong in the area of foil and electrolyte technology and that their processes are recognized among the best in the world. "These attributes coupled with the strong equipment knowledge at Aero M bring tremendous synergy to the combined Aerovox operations," Tuttle stated.
Aerovox, a leading manufacturer of AC capacitors since 1922, has purchased two other businesses that round out its product lines since the company was spun off from Cooper Industries in 1989. In 1990, Aerovox acquired a DC film capacitor operation from an AT&T Microelectronics Business Unit. And in 1991, the company purchased certain assets of Cornell-Dubilier Electronic Co.'s electrical component operation connected with the manufacturing and marketing of EMI filters and the following types of capacitor: AC, power factor correction, and discharge.
