AEM Ag Industry Outlook reports a decline of farm equipment sales. (News Briefs).Forecast for the US unit retail sales of farm tractors, self-propelled combines, farm field machinery and farmstead equipment are indicating a slow down and a decline in some categories for 2002, according to the recently released "2002 State of the Ag Industry Outlook" from the Association of Equipment Manufacturers (AEM AEM - Academic Emergency Medicine (journal) AEM - Accident & Emergency Medicine (UK) AEM - Acoustic Emission Monitoring AEM - Adaptive Energy Management AEM - Advanced Engine Management AEM - Advertising Expenditure Measurement AEM - Aerospace Engineering and Maintenance AEM - Aerospace Engineering and Mechanics AEM - Agroforestry Estate Model AEM - Airborne Electromagnetic AEM - Aircraft Engine Mechanic) (see expanded article in this issue of I&T). Predictions are down 3.3 percent for total sales of two-wheel and four-wheel-drive farm tractors. Two-wheel-drive farm tractors 100 PTO HP and over are predicted to have the greatest decline in sales with a -4.4 percent. US unit retail sales of self-propelled combines are also indicating a decline for 2002, with sales predicted at -6.0 percent, compared to positive sales in 2001 that were up 12.8 percent from the previous year. Farm field machinery predictions were mixed for 2002, with sales of round balers, mower conditioners, windrowers/swathers, farm loaders, chisel CHISEL - An extension of C for VLSI design, implemented as a C preprocessor. Rectangular balers are predicted to remain flat, while forage harvesters, planters, manure spreaders and field cultivators cultivator, agricultural implement for stirring and pulverizing the soil, either before planting or to remove weeds and to aerate and loosen the soil after the crop has begun to grow. Farmstead equipment shows positive signs for 2002, with dairy mechanization equipment and milking machines projected to increase sales by 0.3 percent and 1.0 percent, respectively, over 2001 figures. The survey also indicated the positive factors for the year that influence the sales of new equipment include interest rates and dairy, beef, and hog livestock prices. Negative influences on new equipment sales for 2002 are predicted to be soybean and cotton prices and quantity of used equipment for sale.
