) announced curriculum development grants to Kirkwood Community College Kirkwood Community College is a community college serving seven counties in Iowa. Enrollment in the spring of 2002 topped 24,000 full- and part-time students. , Mesa, Arizona. The two recipients will use the grants to restructure their first-year accounting courses. In most cases, these courses can subsequently be transferred to four-year colleges or universities.

In announcing the grants, Doyle Z. Williams, chairman of the AECC, said, "Two-year colleges are an important link in the education chain for many four-year accounting graduates." He added that 97% of four-year accounting programs grant credit for the transfer of introductory accounting courses taken at two-year colleges. He also pointed to a survey that indicated 27% of Institute of Management Accounting members and 19% of members joining the American Institute of CPAs took their introductory accounting courses at two-year schools.
