ADVO names Gary Mulloy as President and COO.

:AD), the nation's largest direct mail marketing company, today named Gary M. Mulloy as President and Chief Operating Officer Chief Operating Officer (COO)

The officer of a firm responsible for day-to-day management, usually the president or an executive vice-president.
. His appointment will become effective November 4, 1996. Mr. Mulloy will also be elected to ADVO's Board of Directors at their next meeting.

Mr. Mulloy, 51, has served since 1990 as President and Chief Executive Officer of Pilkington Barnes-Hind, Inc., a Division of Pilkington Vision Care. In this position, he was responsible for turning around the company's profitability and significantly increasing annual sales.

Prior to Pilkington Barnes-Hind, Inc., Mr. Mulloy held numerous executive management and marketing positions at Schering-Plough Corp. between 1976 and 1990. He joined the company's Maybelline Company unit in 1984 as Senior Vice President of Marketing, Advertising and Research. He moved up rapidly to the post of Executive Vice President and COO, and in 1989 to President and CEO (1) (Chief Executive Officer) The highest individual in command of an organization. Typically the president of the company, the CEO reports to the Chairman of the Board.  of this leading cosmetics company.

As President and Chief Operating Officer of ADVO, Mr. Mulloy will be responsible for all of the company's field operations, as well as its sales and marketing functions.
