ADVISORY/World Asthma Day Is Tuesday, May 6; Program for Senior Asthma at Pacoima Senior Center.

City Desks & Assignment Editors

ADVISORY...for Tuesday Tuesday: see week.  (May 6)

--(BUSINESS WIRE)

WHAT: A program about Asthma and Allergy that also includes how it
affects older adults (seniors) will be presented by The
Asthma & Allergy Foundation of America, Southern California
Chapter (AAFA). The program will also honor World Asthma Day.
All who attend will receive a free copy of either "How To
Outsmart Your Allergies" by Dr. Art Ulene or "A Patient's
Practical Guide to Allergies and Asthma" by the California
Society of Allergy and Immunology. There will be a brief
         question and answer time provided.

WHERE: The program will be held in the Dining Center of the
Northeast Valley Multipurpose Senior Center, located at 11300
Glenoaks Blvd. in Pacoima. Please call 818/834-6100 to make a
lunch reservation -- lunch is $4.00.

WHEN: Tuesday, May 6, 2003
10:30 a.m. to noon -- lunch immediately following the program

WHY: Because of the many other health problems of older people,
asthma is often not identified right away even though asthma
is an important cause of illness and even death among older
adults. The treatment of asthma in older adults can be
complicated because many seniors take multiple medications.

WHO: Marilyn Li, MD -- Pediatrics and Internal Medicine -- Asthma
and Allergy fellow at Los Angeles County and University of
Southern California Medical Center (LAC+USC). Dr. Li has been
involved as a researcher in inner city asthma and health care
         delivery.

Sarah Kehl, MD -- Pediatrics -- Currently a researcher in
asthma and health care delivery at Los Angeles County and
University of Southern California Medical Center.

Both physicians are associated with the Breathmobile (R)
Program -- a clinic on wheels that brings asthma treatment to
children at their own school's site. The Breathmobile(R) is a
joint community program of AAFA, LAC+USC and the Los Angeles
         and Montebello Unified School Districts.

The Breathmobile(R) is both a treatment and a research
program that is helping to promote better health for those
who suffer from asthma and allergies.
