ADVISORY/Volunteers Help Plant Trees in the Right Places in Imperial Beach -- Away From Power Lines.
--(BUSINESS WIRE)--
WHAT: Local residents of Imperial Beach, community volunteers and
employee/volunteers of San Diego Gas & Electric (SDG&E) will
work together to plant trees. The new trees will replace
trees that had to be removed because they were growing into
power lines, which threatens fire safety, public safety and
power reliability.
WHEN: Saturday, October 17, 1998 -- from 8:30 a.m. to 10:00 a.m.
WHO: The "Tree Smart" plantings are a partnership effort of
People for Trees (a nonprofit urban forestry group), SDG&E,
the City of Imperial Beach and the community group, IB
Beautiful. SDG&E donates the trees.
WHERE: The planting starts at 605 Delaware St., between Calla Ave.
and Cyprus Ave. in Imperial Beach. From Interstate 5 South,
take the Palm Ave./Hwy. 75 exit and turn right. Go about two
miles west on Palm Ave. to Delaware St. Turn right on
Delaware. (Thomas Bros. Map pg. 1329 G-7).
WHY: Trees give us oxygen, beauty and shade -- and they can help
us conserve energy -- when they are planted "in the right
place." But when tall-growing trees are planted too close to
power lines, they can eventually cause fires, electrical
injuries and power outages.
