Who: Saint Nicholas visits 12,000 disadvantaged children in pre-
kindergarten through 3rd grade at 33 schools citywide. See
the excitement and joy on the children's faces as they
discover that Saint Nicholas has visited their classrooms.
What: Volunteer Houston's fifteenth annual "A Visit From Saint
Nicholas." This year, 12,000 children will arrive in
classrooms decorated with gold tinsel and find their
individual backpacks at their desks.
When: A Saint Nicholas mascot and spokesperson will be at the
following schools on Friday, Dec. 6, 2002, 7:45 a.m. -
8:30 a.m.
7:30 a.m. -- Volunteers arrive to await the children.
7:45 a.m. -- Children enter their rooms to discover backpacks
filled with new books, toys and shiny gold mylar. Children and
volunteers experience the joy, the excitement and the wonder
of "A Visit From Saint Nicholas."

Why: Children need to feel that someone cares. "A Visit From Saint
Nicholas" brings joy to 12,000 disadvantaged children.
Through this project, they learn about the joy of anonymous
giving and how human kindness builds every community. This
celebration not only provides a great benefit to our
community's children, but it also raises funds to support the
many programs of Volunteer Houston that promote volunteerism
throughout the year.
