The term initially referred to the company that made the products (the "original" manufacturer), but eventually became widely used to refer to the organization that buys the products and relationships with Lucent, Nokia, Motorola, Siemens, and Cisco. At Netro, Powell scaled revenues from $0 to $68.5 million in two years. Previously, Powell served as director of product management for Cisco's WAN Business Unit, which generated more than $600 million in revenue under his tenure. Powell came to Cisco through its $4.8 billion acquisition of StrataCom in 1997, where he spent nine years in senior sales management roles.
