WHAT: VIDAR Systems Corporation, the market leader in medical
film digitizers, will make several key announcements at
the 2002 RSNA:
-- The company will introduce its newest product, the CAD
PRO(TM) mammography CAD (computer aided detection)
film digitizer. VIDAR worked closely with major CAD
systems providers, engineering consultants, quality
experts and radiologists to ensure that the unique CAD
PRO meets the exacting needs of the mammography
marketplace.
-- VIDAR also will announce preliminary findings of a
Johns Hopkins University clinical study, which
evaluated radiologists' ability to make an accurate
diagnosis from hard-copy mammography films versus
digitized films viewed on a high-resolution monitor.
-- In keeping with its continued commitment to clinical
evaluation of its digitizers, the company also will
announce the launch of a mammography clinical study in
conjunction with the Mayo Clinic and Siemens Medical
Solutions.
WHY: Experts agree that routine mammography exams, when
combined with mammography CAD, are the single most
effective tool for detecting early signs of breast cancer.
CAD systems incorporate advanced pattern recognition and
image analysis to aid in the detection of subtle signs of
breast cancer. A key component of these CAD systems is a
high-quality film digitizer, such as the CAD PRO, which
must meet the highest standards of image quality and
reliability.
