CGA encourages citizens to choose a private water well system to meet their household needs. The statewide group also offers information about the responsibilities that accompany that choice. Literature such as "Your Private Water Supply," "Safe Water From Your Well" and "How to Select a Contractor" is available from CGA. Mike Mortensson, CGA executive director, encourages people to learn more about private well systems by viewing the comprehensive information available on the National Well Owners Association site, www.wellowner.org. The site offers advice for well owners on how to maintain their existing system and protect their water supply. CGA is a co-sponsor of the California Water Awareness Campaign (CWAC CWAC Canadian Women's Army Corps (WWII) CWAC Coordinated Waterbird Counts (African Waterfowl Census Programme) CWAC Charlotte World Affairs Council ). CWAC's theme, "Use Water Wisely -- It's a Way of Life," is promoted by some 300 water agencies, farm bureaus, businesses and other organizations who join together to educate the public about water supply, quality, distribution, management and conservation. Mortensson reports that the 2000 campaign offers more information than ever before through its educational kits, movie theater ads and activities at a new Web site: www.wateraware.org. Persons can also learn about groundwater and CGA's efforts to protect this vast resource by viewing CGA's recent video, "Groundwater -- Our Reservoir of Strength." A second video using CGA footage, "Water Well Basics," shows how groundwater fills the needs of many Americans. Across the state, CGA's local branches will use the videos in their communities. "Let's make an effort during Water Awareness Month to protect both the quantity and quality of our vast groundwater resources," emphasized Mortensson. For information about California's groundwater resources or referral to qualified professionals working with well owners, call CGA at 707/578-4408, or visit its Web site at www.groundh2O.org. |
