TOPIC: The United Nations has announced a "battle plan" to fight AIDS,
according to an article by USAToday.com. The agreement reached by the
189-member General Assembly reportedly includes the strengthening of programs
to reduce AIDS discrimination in the workplace and to implement prevention
programs targeted at people who demonstrate risk-taking behavior. Nations who
are committed to the plan hope to globally reduce AIDS infection rates by 25
percent by 2010, the article says. The Global AIDS Fund is scheduled to be set
up by the end of this year and a board of directors will be selected over the
coming weeks that will include members of industry, governments and advocacy
