ADVISORY/Ubicom Demonstrates Breakthrough Wireless Technologies At 2003 International Consumer Electronics Show.Business Editors/High-Tech Writers 2003 International CES ADVISORY...for Thursday Thursday: see week. (Jan. 9, 2003) --(BUSINESS WIRE) Meeting Rooms Feature Displays of 802.11g, 802.1x Security and Repeater (1) A communications device that amplifies (analog) or regenerates (digital) the data signal in order to extend the transmission distance. Available for both electronic and optical signals, repeaters are used extensively in long distance transmission. Solutions
WHO: Ubicom, Inc., a leading provider of wireless network processor
and software platforms for wireless networks and device
connectivity.
WHAT: Ubicom will host public and private demonstrations on a variety
of wireless technologies at the 2003 International Consumer
Electronics Show (CES). The company will participate in a
product display sponsored by the Wi-Fi Alliance with three
unique wireless solutions based on the company's IP2022
microprocessor and software platform. Exhibits in the Wi-Fi
Alliance display will include:
-- 802.11b AP with 802.1x Security Reference Design -- Ubicom
is announcing that it has brought 802.1x security features
to its IP2022 microprocessor and software platform, and
will demonstrate the capability on a secure 802.11b AP
reference design. The reference design will enable 802.11b
access points with authentication pass-through support for
a Remote Authentication Dial-In User Service (RADIUS)
authentication server on an 802.11b network.
-- Industry's First Stand-alone Repeater APs -- Ubicom will
show the industry's first stand-alone repeater AP made
possible by support for the Wireless Distribution System
(WDS) protocol on its platform. Ubicom is working with
leading OEMs and ODMs to develop stand-alone repeater APs
that can be used to cost-effectively expand WLAN coverage.
The design supports chipsets from Agere.
-- Micro Access Point/Bridge Reference Design -- Ubicom will
show the industry's simplest (fewest number of components)
and smallest (1" x 2.25") 802.11b design for both a
high-performance AP and a wireless-to-Ethernet bridge. The
entire design is slightly larger than a Compact Flash
card, containing an IP2022 microprocessor, 128KB of flash,
LEDs, an Ethernet connector, and a reset switch. It
supports all of Intersil's PRISM 802.11b chipsets (II,
2.5, 3). The design allows for complete design creativity,
due to its extremely small form factor, without
sacrificing performance or features.
Ubicom will also host a private meeting room where it will
show an 802.11g access point, unveiled as the world's first at
the Fall Comdex tradeshow in November. The access point is
designed to support the emerging high-rate 802.11g draft
standard for WLANs and combines Ubicom's IP2022 processor with
Intersil's PRISM GT chipset to deliver true 54 Mbps operation
and full backward compatibility with the 802.11b standard.
