The Capitals have won six championships, including four straight from 1997 to 2000. The other titles came in 2002 and 2007.

At these events, Wayne will demonstrate on-court teaching and learning techniques for Tennis Welcome Centers to make tennis fun for both new and experienced players.

Tennis Welcome Centers

The USTA and the Tennis Industry Association (TIA (1) (Telecommunications Industry Association, Arlington, VA, www.tiaonline.org) A membership organization founded in 1988 that sets telecommunications standards worldwide. It was originally an EIA working group that was spun off and merged with the U.S. ) announced Tennis Welcome Centers on March 30 with the largest grass roots campaign in the history of the sport in the U.S. At over 3,300 Tennis Welcome Centers throughout the nation -- 207 of them in Northern California -- new players can "Learn to Play Tennis ... FAST!" through introductory instructional programs taught by certified tennis professionals. The goals of this initiative are to enhance consumer perceptions of tennis and increase the number of players in the U.S. and its territories from approximately 24 million in 2003 to 30 million in 2010.

The nationwide Tennis Marketing Campaign now under way includes the www.TennisWelcomeCenter.com website, where newcomers to the sport can enter their ZIP code and find a USTA center in that area, and a media advertising program targeting major health and fitness publications.

In addition to the events described above, local activities planned for the Bay Area include the following:
