BACKGROUND: Metropolitan Water District was incorporated Dec. 6, 1928,
to build and operate an aqueduct bringing water to the Los
Angeles Basin from the Colorado River. The first board
meeting was held in Pasadena on Dec. 29, 1928, with
representatives of the cities of Anaheim, Beverly Hills,
Burbank, Colton, Glendale, Los Angeles, Pasadena, San
Bernardino, San Marino, Santa Ana and Santa Monica. Today,
Metropolitan has 26 member public agencies and serves a
5,200-square-mile area in Los Angeles, Orange, Riverside,
San Diego, Riverside, San Bernardino and Ventura counties.
