WHO: United States Surgeon General David Satcher will give the
keynote address at the dedication ceremony for Kaiser
Permanente Los Angeles' Center for Medical Education.
WHAT: The surgeon general will discuss medical education in the
21st century: eliminating ethnic and racial disparities in
health care.
WHEN: Wednesday, July 25
Dr. Satcher's keynote address -- 1 p.m. (program starts at
12:30 p.m.)
Satcher will be available to speak to the media at the
conclusion of the program -- approximately 1:45 p.m.
Kaiser Permanente representatives will also be available to
discuss the Center for Medical Education, including its
residency and research programs.

BACKGROUND:
Kaiser Permanente's Los Angeles Medical Center is a teaching
and research institution. Its Center for Medical Education is
an extensive educational program that includes residency and
fellowship programs, with 165 physicians completing their
medical training in 19 different specialties. Its continuing
medical education program allows Permanente physicians to
keep abreast of the latest advances in medical practice. The
center's research program has produced several important
studies that have influenced the practice of medical care.
These outstanding educational programs are not well known
outside Kaiser Permanente. The Center for Medical Education
is being dedicated as a demonstration of Kaiser Permanente's
commitment to quality medical education and patient care.
