 (D-RI) will be joined by gun industry whistleblower Robert Ricker and retired Senator and Consumer Federation of America Chairman Howard Metzenbaum on Tuesday, June 10, to introduce The Firearms Safety and Consumer Protection Act. This legislation would require the gun industry to comply with the same health and safety regulations as virtually all other products sold in America.

The bill would give the Department of Justice consumer protection authority to regulate the design, manufacture, and distribution of firearms and ammunition, including the ability to: set safety standards Safety standards are standards designed to ensure the safety of products, activities or processes, etc. They may be advisory or compulsory and are normally laid down by an advisory or regulatory body that may be either voluntary or statutory. , issue recalls and warnings, collect data on gun-related deaths and injuries, and ban products that cause unreasonable risk of injury or death.
