WHAT:         Ambassador Negroponte's spokesman, Richard Grenell, is
              available for comment to the media prior to the
              Council's 50th anniversary gala.

WHY:          The 50th anniversary gala will feature U.N. Secretary
              General Kofi Annan and Ambassador John Negroponte. CNN's
              Larry King will serve as the master of ceremonies.

BACKGROUND:   Richard A. Grenell was appointed by President George W.
              Bush to serve as spokesman for Ambassador Negroponte. He
              has also served as spokesman for Mayor Susan Golding of
              San Diego, California; Governor George Pataki of New
              York; Congressman Dave Camp of Michigan; and Congressman
              Mark Sanford.

              Mr. Grenell has been a United States delegate to a
              variety of United Nations' Conferences, including the
              Special Session on Children, the Financing for
              Development Conference, the World Food Summit and the
              World Summit on Sustainable Development.

              Since 1953, the Los Angeles World Affairs Council has
              been attracting heads of state and other prominent
              leaders in the international arena to Los Angeles for
              discussions of current events and world trends.
