    junior division of the Sphinx Competition

    Why: Fourteen-year-old cellist Tony Rymer will perform two pieces
    live for Borders customers. He recently won second place in the
    junior division (18 years old and under) of the prestigious Sphinx
    Competition held every year in Ann Arbor and Detroit, Mich. The
    competition is sponsored by Borders Group and is open to all
    junior high, high school and college age black and Latino string
    players residing in the United States. The Sphinx Competition
    offers these young classical string players a chance to compete
    under the guidance of an internationally renowned panel of judges
    and to perform with established professional musicians in a
    competition setting. Rymer, who lives in Dorchester, Mass., is
    also the winner of the Longy School of Music junior division
    concerto competition.
