TRUCKEE, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--March 3, 2003 The Truckee Donner Chamber of Commerce's 9th Annual "Windows On History" begins Thursday, May 1, 2003, as merchants display original historic photos in their windows throughout the historic downtown Truckee. The weekend of May 17 and 18, the streets roll back to the late 1800's as characters from the Wild West emerge to portray the historic events that shaped the hundred and forty year old town and helped settle the west. The weekend celebration includes guided tours, historic presentations, gold panning, acting and musical performances. The Truckee Railroad Regulators "601" western performance group will reenact actual historic gunfights on the streets of Truckee. Guided walking tours of historic buildings and photographs are scheduled for both Saturday and Sunday. Guided tours of the Truckee Cemetery are scheduled each day, with Chautauqua Chau`tau´qua 1. a meeting, usually held in the summer outdoors or under a temporary tent, providing public lectures combined with entertainment such as concerts and plays. It originated in the village of Chautauqua, N. Y. presentations of the early residents now resting in the cemetery. Newly added guided bus Guided buses are buses steered for part or all of their route by external means, usually on a dedicated track. This track, which often parallels existing roads, excludes all other traffic, permitting the maintenance of reliable schedules on heavily used corridors even during rush tours of historic sites throughout Truckee will be available both days. Visitors can enjoy a five-mile round-trip tour to Hooligan Rocks in Gateway Shopping Center shopping center, a concentration of retail, service, and entertainment enterprises designed to serve the surrounding region. The modern shopping center differs from its antecedents—bazaars and marketplaces—in that the shops are usually amalgamated into , the Historical Society's Cabin, the Truckee Cemetery and more interesting sites.
